About IDC
Innovation and Development Center (IDC), a Kyiv-based nonprofit
group encompassing a civic organization (founded in 1996) and an
international charitable fund (founded in 2001). Since its inception,
the IDC has successfully implemented a number of ongoing programs,
well received by both its funding organizations and the local NGO
(non-government organization) community. Programs offered by the
IDC have been supported financially by the Mott Foundation, the
International Renaissance Foundation, the Open Society Institute,
United Nations Development Program, various foreign technical assistance
programs (U.S. Department of State Democracy Fund, the Dutch Embassy's
MATRA Program, Canadian Embassy in Ukraine), and from companies
such as Phillip Morris, Coca-Cola, Citibank, Proctor & Gamble,
and other. Within the local Ukrainian community, the IDC's programs
continue to receive continuing support - both financial and collaborative
- from a variety of Ukrainian NGOs, universities, and companies.
IDC Resources for NGOs
The IDC has evolved into one of the leading resources for NGO
management. To begin with, the IDC maintains the most comprehensive,
up-to-date listing of NGOs in Ukraine, with over 40,000 entries
of Ukrainian NGOs nationwide, both charitable and civic organizations.
Additionally, the organization publishes Crossroads magazine,
a bimonthly periodical analyzing the not-for-profit sector and highlighting
best practices in NGO management, available to member NGOs for a
subsidized subscription price. A supplement to Crossroads, NPO
Accountant focuses on unraveling intricate tax regulations.
Also, the IDC regularly authors a number of publications: research
papers analyzing the implications of the latest government legislation
on Ukrainian Third Sector development, books on current topics in
NGO management (financial management, marketing, donor relations
- some of its recent publications include Principles of NGO Legislation,
Taxation of NPOs in Ukraine, Legal Provisions and Norms for NPO
Activities in Ukraine, and Accounting at NPOs: New Standards - New
Opportunities), and donors and NGO directories (both in English
and in Ukrainian) to assist in securing grants and forming partnerships.
Approximately 2200 Ukrainian non-profit organizations receive the
IDC's publications on a regular basis. Finally, in addition to disseminating
valuable publications, the Center offers consulting services to
NGOs and charity foundations in Ukraine, organizes seminars for
NPO (not-for-profit organization) accountants and executives, and
researches the latest developments and problems of Ukraine's third
sector.
The IDC also aims to bring management expertise from the for-profit
sector to encourage NGO's to see themselves as potential legal entities
operating in the market economy.
